MARTYR depicts a 12th Century Plague Doctor dying of the Black Death. His bird mask rests atop his head as his expression reveals his weariness and acceptance of his fate, derived from his sacrifice to his people. Hand cast resin figure, painted to resemble ivory and wood. The base in made of assembled scrap antique wood and hand painted. This bust was included in the Society of Portrait Sculptor's annual FACE competition in London in 2023.
