Zach Brown

Painting & Drawing

Zach Brown was born in Mars, Pennsylvania, where the rural landscape, Catholic imagery, folklore, and fascination with the unknown shaped his artistic imagination from an early age. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a BFA, and later received his MFA from the New York Academy of Art, where he focused on traditional figurative painting. Brown’s work draws from classical antiquity, Renaissance painting, Symbolism, mythology, and the mysteries of human existence. Working primarily in oil, he creates richly layered compositions that explore mortality, memory, transformation, and the passage of time. His paintings revive forgotten archetypes and myths, treating them not as relics of the past but as living psychological forces. Brown lives and works in a restored nineteenth-century schoolhouse in Pennsylvania, where he continues to create paintings that bridge the ancient and contemporary worlds, exploring the enduring symbols that shape human experience.
